Artists and fashion labels

Yesterday it was released that Avril Lavigine would be getting her own clothing line which will be going up for sale on July in the US. This comes after news that Amy Winehouse would be releasing her own clothing and cosmetic products and recently Pete Doherty turning down an offer to part of a fashion show, who in the past has worked with Gio Gio.

It's been questioned if artists really design these products or have any real say in the design. Now I'm not suggesting that Amy Winehouse should be sitting around learning how to make perfume but is this a case of labels leaching onto artists for sales? Well most likely as the same with the endless line of 'designer' products released by almost everyone now, including the delightful Kerry Katona straight out of finishing school and straight into the headlines, if you're not sure of her work check crazy in love I'm sure you'll fall for here straight away...

I've never been a fan of this idea that artists should be role models to kids, they don't owe it to anyone nor should they be expect to be squeaky clean but is it right that labels grab whoever is on the cover of NME and decide that they suddenly wear these clothes?
